This is a collection of documents used by Cal-ESAR for various purposes. Many of these documents are used in our training courses. All of these documents (except the Scouting forms) are copyright Cal-ESAR 2002 and may not be used without permission.

Adult (21+) Application Form (BSA) - This form should be filled out by our adult volunteers. (PDF)

Minor (under 21) Application Form (BSA) - This form should be filled out by our volunteers under 21 years old. (PDF)

Medical Form (BSA) - All CalESAR members must have a medical form on file.(PDF)

Icom F3 (David Kovar)- A guide to using Icom F3's. This is generally aimed at the F3's used by CalESAR, but covers some general information and some other configurations created by David Kovar. (HTML)

Tent Making Made Easy (H.J. Holden via Kyle Contreras-Barbour) - An excerpt from the April 1911 issue of Recreation Magazine depicting shelters constructed with a cloth or canvas (or tarp). (PDF)

Enjoying Altitude (Stephen Smith) - Appropriate background, tips, and techniques are covered so that readers can enjoy those altitudes between 10,000 and 15,000 feet (i.e., max altitude in the continental US) in summer conditions. (Word)

Intro to Crampons and Ice Axes (Stephen Smith) - Appropriate background, tips, and techniques are covered so that readers can better use crampons and ice axes over moderate terrain (i.e., in terrain that does not require the use of a rope or guide). This builds upon the Enjoying Altitude document, as you will need to use those breathing techniques when using ice axes. (Word)

Basic Radio Operations (Chuck Sardoch) - Descibes basic VHF radio operations in very simple, easy to remember, terms. (PDF) (Word)

How to be a Canine Team Flanker (Lisa Lee) - A PowerPoint presentation discussing how canine teams work, different types of search dogs, basic first aid, and a whole host of other information to help you be a better flanker for a canine team. (PowerPoint)

Ten Essentials, Plus Ten More (David Steinhauer) - This is the gear list for CalESAR's third weekend, a 36 hour exercise designed to introduce trainees to protracted overland travel. These are the basic essentials required to be safe, but not necessarily completely comfortable. (HTML)

Moffett Air Show Missing Persons Report Form (Paul Lufkin) - This document is used by CalESAR teams working the Moffett Federal Airfield airshows to document missing persons. It is designed to be printed on both sides of a sheet of paper so the form is on the front and the protocol is on the back. (Word)
